The typical intelligent device management (IDM) model assumes that customer devices are reliably accessible at all times to the manufacturer's enterprise. In reality however, some percentage of any manufacturer's installed base is not connected; equipment may be located in rooms without network access, the customer's IT policy may prohibit Internet access to external sites, or a device may have to share a network connection with other equipment. For support organizations deploying IDM, these disconnected devices reduce the reach and effectiveness of their remote support strategy.
Questra SoftwareCourier™ allows disconnected devices to participate in an IDMenabled business model. The key is to maintain a consistent process at the enterprise while supporting both connected and disconnected devices. SoftwareCourier is an application that bridges the gap between the Questra IDM enterprise and devices in the field which lack Internet access.
- Reach a higher percentage of your device population: extend the capabilities of Questra IDM to include disconnected devices which lack access to the public Internet.
- Ensure a single reliable process for remote service and software management: apply the same process for managing devices, whether they are connected or not, to allow for centralized control and management
- Require less user training: users at the enterprise are already familiar with the enterprise application and UI
- Gives flexibility to deploy IDM in phases: allow all customer devices to participate in an IDM-enabled process, including the 'unreachable' devices, until such time as those devices can be continuously connected.
