Manufacturers of packaging machinery face a cautious economic climate. A Packing Machinery and Manufacturers Institute (PMMI) report on purchasing in 2004 indicated that of the companies who stated that they would be purchasing or replacing equipment, the majority were doing so in order to gain flexibility, efficiency and productivity, and to reduce labor and maintenance costs. Whether a plant handles beverages, chemicals, durables, foods, personal care, converters, soft goods or pharmaceuticals, customers clearly want the benefits of new technology.

At the same time, as packaging machines become more complex, plant maintenance personnel find it difficult to stay current with technology and place more of the support burden on the manufacturer. The packaging machinery aftermarket is responsible for a very high share of the industry's annual profits. If the manufacturer cannot satisfy their needs, a myriad of alternative suppliers rush in to fill the gap, taking 40% of the market share (PMMI).

Business Challenge

Customers are making the replacement of older machinery with current high-tech models a priority. How can packaging machinery manufacturers capture both equipment purchase revenues and aftermarket revenues?

Whether your customer is a high volume, high tech packaging plant or the supermarket within a mega-store, only excellent aftermarket service and competitive maintenance costs will motivate the customer to continue purchasing. How can you deliver better service while keeping your costs down for the customer?

The Questra Solution

In the same way that your customers are looking to new technology to improve their efficiency and flexibility, packaging machinery manufacturers are seeking new ways to improve service and reduce costs. Fortunately, newer equipment designs incorporate more electronic controls, making them highly suitable for remote monitoring, diagnostics and troubleshooting.

The Questra IDM Application Suite™ allows manufacturers to use Intelligent Device Management (IDM) to monitor the performance of your equipment, substitute predictive maintenance for emergency calls, reduce unplanned downtime, ensure high quality output and provide an accurate measure of usage and parts wear and tear.

The Questra IDM solution is powerful, enterprise software which enables packaging machinery manufacturers to monitor, manage and service their equipment remotely over the Internet, thereby reducing unplanned site visits, increasing consistent uptime and consistent output. Real-time, remote monitoring provides early warning of issues, replacing emergency calls with predictive maintenance. Sophisticated analytics provide long term trend analysis that can identify impending problems in their infancy. Remote diagnostics deliver expert knowledge and assistance from the technical service team, whether located at headquarters or in dispersed global service locations, to a customer's farthest location. Usage monitoring provides the information needed to ensure optimal management of your parts inventory and potentially the customer's inventory.

Since you own the proprietary knowledge required to enable remote service functionality, you can also lock out alternative suppliers from offering such a high-value, differentiated service.

Join packaging equipment manufacturers worldwide in realizing the benefits of Questra's mission-critical IDM solution.
